Made in Nova Scotia
Celebrating Nova Scotia Craftsmanship
Walk around any area of Nova Scotia, from our largest city, Halifax, to our smallest towns, and you will find vibrant, charming artisans celebrating and depicting the culture, history, and natural beauty of the province through art, food, clothing, and even chocolate. Nova Scotians take pride in their province and enthusiastically support the many locally crafted products made here.
Why local craftsmanship is important
When you purchase a locally crafted product in Nova Scotia, you will often purchase directly from the artist or producer, and will have a chance to speak with them about the love and care that goes into their craft.
Shopping local also often means that you are helping to support a community, by purchasing locally crafted and produced goods, you are supporting local jobs and helping to bolster the community.

Amos Pewter: Over 50 years of artisan craftsmanship in Nova Scotia
At Amos Pewter, the term “Handcrafted” is proudly used by the artisans that, over the past five decades, have been hand-crafting original designs of jewelry, ornaments, home décor and tableware. The entire process from hand-drawn design to wax carving, mold-making to casting and finally to finishing continues to be done in a former boat-building shop (circa 1888) and its heritage-building neighbour on Main Street, Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.
In 2024, Amos Pewter marked our 50th anniversary. To mark this milestone, we embarked on an exciting new journey. Alchemy Designs – a luxurious jewelry line crafted in gold from our studio in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, brings a new dimension of artistry to our timeless tradition of local craftsmanship.
Partnering with like-minded brands
Specializing in pewter design, Amos Pewter has worked with a variety of local, like-minded brands to produce custom pieces used to thank clients and customers, recognize employee contributions, celebrate achievements and support charitable causes.
In 2021, Amos Pewter partnered with Peace by Chocolate, a locally crafted chocolate company based out of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Additional partnerships with local organizations include Saltbox Brewery, and The Barn Coffee & Social House, both of which are based within Mahone Bay and create quality, locally crafted goods.

The artisans at Amos Pewter are proud to be keepers of time-honoured pewter practices and methods while at the same time offering innovative designs inspired by nature and our beautiful coastal surroundings.
Our artisans carefully ladle hot, free-flowing molten pewter from the melting pot and capture it in a spinning mould formed from a wax sculpture carved in detail to mirror the original hand-drawn design. Once removed from the mould, each piece is carefully hand-finished in a process that ensures excellence in craftsmanship.
Each piece of pewter that leaves our shelves is thoughtfully chosen by someone with a particular sentiment or memory in mind. We have been fortunate to have many customers share stories of our pewter designs with us. Beginnings and endings. Laughter and tears. Milestones and memories. We are honoured to play a part in so many lives.
Amos Pewter was the first artisan shop in Nova Scotia to become a member of the international Economusee network whose mission is to showcase traditional trades and skills. We are located in open studios in scenic Mahone Bay, on the vibrant Halifax Waterfront, picturesque Peggy's Cove and at lively Peake's Quay in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Take part in our hands-on experience where you can finish and personalize your own pewter keepsake an experience, uniquely Amos.
